Spruce-Pine-Fir is a lumber group commonly graded and sold together as SPF. This group is comprised of a mixture of the following species:
· Lodgepole Pine (Pinus contorta) is interior BC’s most plentiful tree species.
· White Spruce (Picea Glauca) is BC’s most plentiful spruce species, growing extensively throughout the interior of the province.
· Engelmann Spruce (Picea Engelmannii) is so similar to White spruce that the cut lumber of both species is not differentiated.
· Subalpine Fir (Abies Lasiocarpa) is also referred to as Balsam fir, growing throughout the interior of the province together with spruce and pine.
Kiln-dried SPF lumber has straight grain, a high strength-to-weight ratio, and uniform texture which makes it suitable for applications such as:
· Structural framing
· Plywood
· Doors
· Medium density fiberboard (MDF)
· Pulp and paper
· Modular housing
· Trusses
· Interior finishing
· Pallets
· Crating
