Western Hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla) is often graded and sold together with Amabalis Fir (Abies amabalis) as a single species group known as Hem-Fir (or Hem-Bal).
The dense wood fiber has the stiffness and strength needed in most industrial and structural applications such as:

The lumber of Western Hemlock has a light color, excellent machining properties, and a fine straight grain making it the lumber of choice for applications where gluing and staining are required, such as

The uniform texture of Western Hemlock lumber gives it even an wearing surface make it a species of choice for gymnasium floors that gradually harden with age.
